Bulging muscles, deep leather tan, veins popping from a bicep, more veins running down from his thighs and under his low rise Ralph Lauren boxer briefs….like a blood treasure trail…
^^^ Is this a picture of health? What does healthy look like to you? No seriously, have a think.
Is it a body builder? Is it a fitness model? Is it Paris Hilton, Amy Schumer, Jennifer Anniston?
Is it your neighbour who lost 100 pounds or is it that squat queen you follow on Instagram?
I mean, come on, we all have an image of what WE deem healthy and sexy.
I’ll tell you mine….
It’s me. About 4 years ago.
I was lean. I was running half marathons, training every day and eating super clean. I looked incredible. I took pictures of my abs and ass…yup, I did the whole before and and after thing.
I had been super focused on my health for about 6 months and well, this was PRE-divorce so yeh…I killed it.
The thing is…I hated myself. I hated everything. I hated my thighs, my boobs, my arms.
I felt that I looked grotesque. I felt huge.
I mean, I KNEW my body had changed, I had the photos to prove it BUT…the self hatred I harboured for myself was so intense that I couldn’t appreciate my body.
So here’s the thing you need to remember about losing weight and yes, this message will be lost on many people but..
There’s no point losing weight if you haven’t dealt with your self-hatred.
You will hate yourself fat and you will hate yourself skinny. It won’t matter what size you are if you can’t appreciate what your body has done for you.
I know I know, you want me to rainbow vomit some weight loss motivation on you, but today I want you to address your inner physique.
Of course, having been through what I have been through over the past 4 years, I can truly say that I am mentally a lot stronger and can now appreciate myself for being strong and sassy. And yeh, while I am still working on that “let me drink my divorce away” 20 pounds….
…at least I can looking the mirror, at my whole body, with all its flaws and imperfections and say:
“Hey, you look good now, you’ll look good later but NOTHING looks as good as your soul RN”.
And, while 10,000 Strong is a workout studio and nutrition revolution, our #1 goal is to make you as internally strong as you are externally.
Happiness IS NOT ONLY about what you look like on the outside. TRUE happiness happens when you are happy BOTH inside and out.
