As Instagram is just one long stream of pictures and captions, it seems "thinspiration" images are on the rise.
Tiny little girls are posting skeletal pictures while others type in #goals or #sobeautiful in the comments section. The images are usually focused on concave stomachs, protruding hip bones and the outline of an entire rib cage.
Anorexia and Bulimia are complex eating disorders. I am not here to give my opinion on them or those who suffer from them. BUT, if you do have a young girl with an Instagram account, be warned, these "thinspo" pictures have a massive following and lots of support.
And, I will say, Instagram are trying their hardest to ban these search words I mentioned above, but people are creative and there are 100 ways to change a word. You can use "thygap" and "thynspo" to search out these images and as people get more creative, more posts appear. There are currently 2.5 millions Pro-Eating Disorder images on Instagram and their recent banning's only served to increase support.
So, you know, I am always trying to maintain some level of normalcy in the weight loss world. I have made it my mission to help women focus on strength rather than being skinny. I am trying, against all odds, to remind women that your health and your self-worth are more important and diet pills, deprivation and thigh gaps.
My job is to provide a safe environment away from the savage world of weight loss and cut away all the crap marketing that surrounds the "nutrition" industry today. I have created a little haven of health in Whitby. A place where no matter how many Oxygen magazine covers we see, how many Special K adverts we watch and no matter which new diet fad comes around…you always have a place to go clear your head, focus on you YOU and get the workouts and nutrition advice YOUR body needs.
Screw the rest of the world. They can do what they want.
You, on the other hand, can come to 10000 Strong and thrive in a community of like minded, pro-wellness men and women who are there to focus on themselves.
Just hard workouts and cleansing nutrition.
Doesnt that sound easier than trying to make sense of the insanity that surrounds the "health" industry these days.
